When Sue Moreman contacted us to ask for a musical themed mobile bar for her birthday celebrations we absolutely jumped with joy. It’s combining three of our favourite things: Musicals – Drinks – Dressing Up!
Sue wanted her guests to enjoy the party and not have to worry about paying for everything so she opted for a pre-paid bar. Sue would settle the bill at the end of the event.
We started by asking Sue a little more about her favourite musicals and then we set about coming up with a few drink names for the bar menu. This has to be the best bar so far, as we have definitely not had this much fun organising a bar menu. All the giggles.
Sue wanted a few cocktails for the evening and we needed to design these as well as come up with names for each cocktail.
We started with our first cocktail: a pink gin and prosecco. Of course, the Musical that jumped out at us was Miss Saigon. All we needed to do was change one letter in the title of the musical and we had our first cocktail name: Miss SaiGIN. Oooo see what we did!? Awesome!
In order to print off a themed menu we downloaded the image from the original musical poster and then adapted it with the cocktail ingredients listed over the top of the musical logo.
The second cocktail needed a name and it was staring us in the face. Sue’s surname was Moreman. There could be only one musical for this cocktail and that was The Book of Mormon. Again we downloaded the poster image and adapted the letters so it worked with the spelling of Sue’s name for our own drinks menu poster.
The third cocktail was a vodka cocktail with cranberry and grapefruit juice. A little sharp on the tongue but refreshing. As it was sharp we needed something that would match the drink. This cocktail we called the Sweeney Toddy.
We now arrived at the general drinks menu. Sadly for this event we didn’t have the vintage van so didn’t have the coffee machine available and meant that our trademark Espresso Martinis were not available for this event. We desperately wanted to use Starlight Express (which we would have changed to Starlight Espresso). So after a while we swapped this out for prosecco and called it Starlight Prosecco. Again we downloaded the logo and adapted it to suit the menu.
For wines – of course it HAD to be Moulin ROUGE!
For spirits and mixers we went old school with COKElahoma.
Maybe corny, but this is seriously so much fun! You can see why we had a fit of giggles whilst we were coming up with this menu!
Next up the pints. We serve locally sourced ales, lagers and ciders in draft at all events. When we said the word cider inspiration hit and the Musical Menu for this section could only be one musical….. West CIDER Story.
We didn’t have much space left on the menus but had a whole host of soft drinks to be added so needed an umbrella musical for all the choices available. As soon as we said umbrella it conjured up images of a governess looking after children and it was of course…Mary Poppins. As the governess for children this was perfect for the menu for displaying soft drinks
Honestly. This was so much fun to prepare for and on the night we were uber psyched up as the bar team dressed up in outfits as well. We had Pirates of Penzance, Phantom of the Opera and Cats!
The night was great. Everyone enjoyed the live music and came in fancy dress.
As the drinks were all pre-paid people had free reign over what drinks they wished to have and the bar team kept a tally of what was ordered on the night. A week later we gave Sue the bill and this was settled promptly.
Sue said
“Your bar team really did go above and beyond that night. It was greatly appreciated….fantastic service from the Toot Sweets team and I would recommend them highly for any function. Thank you.”
Well Sue it was an absolute pleasure and we had so much fun with the organisation of this mobile bar for your birthday celebrations.
See you at the next one!
If you want to have a themed bar at your event then get in contact. We can discuss your theme and what you would like us to provide, prepare your bar menus and talk about whether you would like a pre-paid bar, cash bar or a mix of both.
In the meantime, we’re off to watch a few of our favourite musicals!
