The Greatest Showman

The Greatest Showman
January 29, 2018 by Sarah

Looking for a Greatest Showman themed mobile bar?  Well you are definitely in the right place as theming our mobile bars is a Toots Team speciality!

In 2018 The Greatest Showman film was released, received fantastic reviews and became a massive hit all around the world.  We all know and recognise the songs and secretly all sing along in the car (don’t deny it!)!

Lee was holding a surprise party for his partner Rosie and wanted a mobile bar for the event.  Lee contacted Toot Sweets & Co Mobile Bars to ask if we could provide a fully stocked and pre-paid bar for a surprise party.  Lee totally had us at “Hello I’m having a Musical Themed Party and need a bar.”!  Of COURSE we could provide a fully stocked mobile bar for the party.  We suggested that, not only could we provide a bar, we could also theme it to really create the wow factor.  Lee was over the moon at the suggestion and agreed wholeheartedly, happy to leave it all in our very capable hands.

Lee asked if we could provide sweet and salty popcorn as well as retro sweets for guests to keep their jaws going waiting for the birthday girl to arrive and the performance to start.  Of course we could!  We can provide anything our guests ask us for as we have a lot of friends with local businesses that we love to support.  In fact, Lee had been let down by his caterer on the night so we sourced him a fantastic replacement with our friends at Charcoal.  Based in Weston they do the BEST BBQ style foods in the South West and they didn’t let us down on the night and had a fantastic menu of BBQ foods and salads!

Lee had asked us to serve his guests chilled glasses of Veuve Clicquot Champagne on arrival and once guests had received their champagne they could then choose any drink they wished from the bar and Lee would settle the bill at the end.  Prior to the party, we discussed other drink requirements with Lee who asked us to provide a fully stocked bar.  He asked for locally produced bottled beers and cider, a wide choice of spirits and mixers, wines, champagne and soft drinks.  Lee didn’t want his guests to pay for any of the drinks and had set a maximum budget for the evening

We knew that the birthday girl had the soundtrack playing constantly on repeat in the house, and when she wasn’t dancing and singing along to it then she was watching the film. Rosie knew all the words to all the songs, singing along enthusiastically and at full volume at every opportunity. There wasn’t a better theme for her birthday party.

The Toots Team got together for a bit of a brainstorm and came up with a few new cocktails as well as renaming our drinks based loosely around the songs and characters from the film and secret emails and calls were going back and forth to Lee to double check he was happy with our suggestions.  We named the drinks.  We designed and printed off the menus.  We found fresh popcorn, retro sweets, circus bags to serve them in and circus outfits for the bar team.  One of the themed cocktails was called Rewrite the Stars and consisted of a pink gin and prosecco cocktail with the addition of pink candyfloss (to match the trapeze artist’s hair).  Delicious. The candyfloss melted into the cocktail and made it even sweeter but more importantly it added a bit of flair to the serving of drinks and the guests loved it.

The day arrived and we packed all the bar stock and equipment into the van and headed to Gloucester to set up.  We arrived at 2pm and the West End performers were already on site and rehearsals were well underway.  I don’t think the bar team have ever been so excited as the performers were running through “Come Alive” as we arrived to load everything into the venue.  The sound was incredible and it was fun to do a “dance set up” and boogy about whilst setting up the drinks ready to serve later on.

Lee didn’t stint on quality.  As well as the best bar in the area, ahem, the band was stunning with a 15 piece live band with brass and strings.  There was a 6 piece backing vocal section as well as 6 of the West End’s vocalists taking turns in leading to sing the songs.

The venue was dressed in a circus theme with balloons and lighting as well as large TV screens.

Once the band and vocalists were happy with the sound and lighting, they shot off to change before guests arrived.  The bar was set up and ready to go and looked fab at the back of the room but with the best seats in the house directly opposite the stage so we had a great view of the live action.

Guests started to arrive from 6:45pm and took part by dressing up accordingly. Everyone looked amazing.  They took their bag of sweets and a bag of fresh popcorn, had a glass of champagne and excitedly chatted about the evening ahead.  As 7:45 approached we were all awaiting the arrival of Rosie who had been told she was going out for a few drinks with her girlfriends.

The lights went out, the music stopped and the doors flung open to the sound of  This Is The Greatest Show.  The lights on stage were wonderful and the sound was just incredible.  Rosie was shocked but absolutely elated and took her front row seat to enjoy over an hour of all the songs from The Greatest Showman.

There was a short break where guests asked for drinks and food was eaten.  Then the music returned for a futher hour with songs from the top shows from the West End.  All very authentic and sounding fabulous.

A Disco followed along with the opportunity for people to do a bit of karaoke if they fancied.  The bar was busy and we kept an eye on everyone making sure they were enjoying themselves.

This was a great night and everyone had a wonderful time.  Everything from the drinks, the food, the decor, the band, the vocalists, the guests – everything was just superb.
